E-drug: Sedation of children pre-op (cont'd)
---------------------------------------------

I would consider ketamine or a barbiturate. Benzos can cause
disinhibition rather than sedation.

One very rich resource to look for ideas and experiences with
conscious sedation in an ED can be found at

    http://gema.library.ucsf.edu:8081/srch.html

This is a search engine for archives of an emergency medicine e-mail
discussion list. The subject of pediatric conscious sedation agents has
come up a number of times.

Where the instruction says 'Where in GEMA do you want to search?'

pick

Emed-l

You can get a lot of hits with the search engine. Try specifying the
drug you want to use along with the search terms 'sedation' or
'conscious sedation'.
