RFI: Anopheles eradication - Gambusia
-------------------------------------
In the thirties, Croatia, former Soviet Union and Spain eradicated
malaria by spreading Gambusia affinis and holbruki, a tropical fish
originally from South America, in standing waters. In Croatia it was
done by the teachers and priests, so there are no relevant written
records of it. Have there been any attempts to fight anopheles in Af-
rica this way, were there any researches on that matter? In African
conditions, this could hardly solve the problem 100 %, as it did in
Europe, but it costs nothing. I would very much appreciate any sug-
gestion how to find out more on the subject.
Thanks
