E-drug: 25th anniversary of WHO model EDL
---------------------------------------------
Dear friends of Essential Medicines,
Congratulation to WHO and to all who have been active at high levels
(setting policy) and at grass root levels (practicing) and who are
working tirelessly to promote the Essential Drugs Concept and
Rational Drug Use. It's great how this concept has grown and
developed until today it is an irrevocable fact that essential drugs
are a mainstay in healthcare. It is practiced in the health care
systems of more than 160 countries and in the wide field of
Humanitarian and Emergency aid. Truly a cause for celebration!
But the work on its promotion and practice must continue so that
every healthcare professional, every ministry, every producer and, of
course, every consumer sees it as an every day aspect of life.
On this coming occasion of the 25th anniversary, we would like to
organize a worldwide awareness campaign about the EDL. Everybody who
reads this note should reflect on how he/she can be active in
informing and raising awareness about the EDL wherever he/she is
living.
We are proposing a worldwide media campaign! Please write a short (or
long) article for your local papers and try to get interviews on the
radio and television to explain the ED concept and its role in health
care in the world, in your own country and even share your own
experience. These activities should focus or climax on the 21st of
October. Please use the material WHO is offering on their website.
On 21st of October, there will be a celebration inside WHO, where
media will be invited. We would like to present an overview about
this worldwide awareness-campaign, which will be published in
Essential-Drug-Monitor afterwards. Therefore we need a very brief
summery (50 words max!!!) from you informing us about you, your
media-activity and the date of presentation. Please send this brief
summary(and only this brief summary!) by Email to: [email protected]
Please write in the subject line - EDL.
Thanks for your participation in advance!
Yours sincerely,
Eva M A Ombaka
