Medical Officer (Time-limited post - two years)
Grade: P.5

Organizational Location/Unit: Family and Community Health (FCH)
Department of HIV/AIDS Care (HIV/AIDS/CRE)

Objectives of the programme:
To reduce sharply human suffering due to HIV/AIDS and its impact
on the development of human, social and economic capital globally,
by increasing access to care and support for people living with
HIV/AIDS, through advocacy, the development of norms and
standards for the delivery of care and support and support for
health system development.

The successful candidate will:
Be responsible for the development of normative materials
(guidelines, handbooks, training packages) on care and support for
people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWA), using broad consultative
processes in which he/she will convene international consultative
meetings, supervise consultants and writing committees. Support
the development of a comprehensive advocacy strategy for care
and support for PLWA, and start and manage a global HIV care and
support training network for health care workers on care and
support for PLWA. Provide as requested basic support to Regional
Offices and TSH in care and support for PLWA, from the provision
of technical information to the management of strategic planning
processes that pursue better access to care and support in
countries.

Qualifications Required:
 
Education and Skills:
Medical degree, complemented by a post-doctoral degree in health
science or other relevant discipline. In-depth knowledge of WHO's
work in the field of HIV/AIDS, familiarity with the work of other UN
Organizations in Acess to Care for PLWA; ability to work in and
lead multidisciplinary teams, to bring about concensus in
consultative processes; good communication skills and commitment
to the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Experience:
Sound experience at national and international levels in the field of
care and support for PLWA in a UN Organization at senior level.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English or French with a good working
knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another UN official
language would be an advantage.

Annual salary (net of tax):
US$ 67 698 at single rate and US$ 72 872 with primary
dependants.
Post Adjustment: 35.% of the above figures. This percentage is to
be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month
either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate
fluctuations or inflation.
