E-drug: Antidepressants and mouth infections
--------------------------------------------

EurekAlert Research News Release: 23 June 1998
Journal: General Hospital Psychiatry

Antidepressants Can Lead To Mouth Infections

Persons taking antidepressant medication are at increased risk of
developing dental cavities and oral infections, researchers warn. This
is because antidepressants cause dry mouth by reducing the ability to
secrete saliva, an effect largely unrecognized by both physicians and
dentists.
