E-DRUG: alcoholic cold medication (2)
-------------------------------------
That's what all the labelling will say and while 10% alcohol sounds like a
lot, when a child only receives 5 ml as a dose I don't think they would
ingest enough alcohol to have any effect. Assuming proportional volumes of
distribution (although I'm sure that's not quite correct) a 5 ml dose
would be equivalent to approximately two tablespoonfuls of wine (10 %
alcohol) for me. On occasion my 2 1/2 year old son will have a sip of wine
- approximately 5 ml - and he certainly doesn't fall asleep. Any comments,
other than being castigated for trying to turn my son into an alcoholic???
