E-DRUG Demazin Syrup Response

"Demazin syrup is highly advertised and very popular OTC in Australia."

In Australia, it is labelled "Relief from the symptoms of COLDS &
ALLERGIES" and is packaged with a "feelgood" picture of a white rabbit on
the box of at least one Demazin variant. The preparation may not be
rational, but as Beverley says, it is very popular, principally in my view,
because of its sedative effect.

This is interesting, because in (parts of/all of?) Australia it is Schedule
3, which means sale at the discretion of the pharmacist. The pharmacist
must be personally and directly involved in the sale of the product and
must be satisfied as to the appropriateness of the product's use on each
and every occasion he/she sells it.

If there is no evidence as to the efficacy of the product, how can the
pharmacist be satisfied its sale is EVER appropriate?

HOWEVER, personal experience with my 3 young children tells me that this
drug combination DOES appear to unblock a blocked nose and also certainly
appears to reduce the number of parental trips to the child's bed during
the night.

Cheers...........Mark

Afterthought; I wonder whether Malam are interested in these types of
products (Peter, Joel?).

[Moderators Comment We see the power of the personal series of three!
Despite all of my objections my wife has used such preparations on our
children. I have no idea idea if it helped them but it made her feel that
she was doing something. Richard Laing Co-Moderator]
