Bursaries for MEDINFO 2001
--------------------------
2-5 September, 2001
London, UK
http://www.medinfo2001.org/
A limited number of bursaries are to be awarded to assist overseas
delegates to attend medinfo2001.
OBJECTIVE
The objective of the bursaries is to stimulate the sharing of knowledge
amongst the participants at medinfo2001 and to facilitate the dissemi-
nation of information about world-wide health informatics activities
through a wider community.
They will be restricted to participants from developing countries and
countries in transition. Applicants must submit a short bid (maximum
two A4 pages, not less than 12 point) describing why they wish to at-
tend, what their current role is and how they would make use of infor-
mation and contacts made on return to their home base. The awards are
not made explicitly to facilitate the presentation of papers, posters
or demonstrations. An international scientific Bursary sub-committee
will decide to whom the awards will be made, and no further discussion
will be entered into thereafter. Post-graduate students in health or
informatics disciplines may apply and their submissions should be ac-
companied by a letter of accreditation form a senior member of the Fac-
ulty.
Applicants should fulfil the following conditions
* have a competent grasp of English in written and spoken form;
* be already in, or have expectations of taking up, a mid-level post in
an organisation operating in the health domain;
* be able to demonstrate the capacity to communicate information gained
across a wide community with an interest / activity in health and in-
formatics in their home country (preferably through involvement in
their national society which, where appropriate, will be the represen-
tative body of the International Medical Informatics Association);
* must submit a plan of how information gained and contacts made will
be diffused within home nation;
* be active in some part of the field covered by the agenda of
medinfo2001, demonstrated by recent publications, presentations, re-
search interests or project work;
* have not received a bursary from IMIA or the host country for atten-
dance at either of the previous two Medinfos;

port already in place should be declared and will be deducted from any
award made by medinfo2001 Bursary Committee.
