Mozambique disaster, where do we stand? (22)
--------------------------------------------

Dear Tirelo,

Thank you for the forwarded letter. It is sad that relief efforts lag
so drastically behind these people's pressing needs. I've also heard
that another cyclone is expected to hit the area soon. Certainly this
can only increase the misery and needs of those who survive.

In the hope of getting the word out, I have included a document:
Brother's Brother Foundation's press release for March 2nd. It may be
of some comfort to know that a woman called today to give a donation
to the flood relief efforts. When I asked her how she found out about
us, she said she called Channel 4, which had video showing people be-
ing rescued. Apparently the people at the switchboard were able to
tell her that we are accepting donations!

We've received calls from donors in Atlanta, Illinois and Oregon be-
cause BBF is listed on some relief sites on the Internet. More came
in today, but I don't know what states they were calling from. Please
let anyone know if they'd like to find out more about Brother's
Brother Foundation they can check out our website at:
http://www.brothersbrother.com

We are hoping to use the Internet more, so if you have the press re-
lease, maybe more people will read about our effort and increase the
response!

If you have any questions or other people to notify, please let me
know.

SUPPLYING RELIEF TO FLOOD VICTIMS IN SOUTHERN AFRICA

Pittsburgh, March 2, 2000 - Brother's Brother Foundation is appealing
for cash contributions to aid people affected by torrential rains and
flooding in four countries in southern Africa. Flooding has left
thousands dead and a million people homeless in Mozambique, Madagas-
car, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.

Checks and financial contributions should be marked "African flood"
to indicate that the donation is to be applied to these efforts.

Contributions may be made to:

Brother's Brother Foundation is working with a number of local chari-
ties in southern Africa. Dr. Robert Hingson, founder of BBF, began
his humanitarian efforts in Africa in 1958. BBF will channel re-
sources through Baptist World Aid, and other charitable and relief
agencies in the affected countries as resources become available.

Brother's Brother is NOT accepting clothing or canned goods from in-
dividuals for this relief effort. Donations of money will be used to
send or purchase specific, vital supplies requested by BBF's partner
agencies in Southern Africa.

Brother's Brother Foundation is a 42-year old Pittsburgh-based inter-
national charity which has provided 63,000 tons of medical supplies,
textbooks, food, seed and other humanitarian supplies to those in
need in over 100 countries since 1958. BBF has responded to five dis-
asters over the past year: Hurricane Mitch in Central America, the
conflict in Kosovo, earthquakes in Turkey in August and November, and
devastating mudslides in Venezuela in December. To date, over 1,350
tons of relief supplies have been sent by the BBF to the survivors of
these disasters.
