Dear Colleagues:
This is the final announcement related to the International Health
Geographics Conference 2000.
This year's conference focuses on issues of health and space, and in-
cludes topics related to international development, epidemiology,
health planning, disease control, equity, community health, data man-
agement and policy issues.
Our keynote speakers:
Dr. Mohammed Akhter, Executive Director, American Public Health Asso-
ciation;
Dr. George Anderson, President, American College of Preventive Medi-
cine;
Mr. William Davenhall, Health Director, ESRI, Inc.
The 2000 IHGC is honored to host an array of distinguished colleagues
as session chairs and presenters, representing 32 states and 30 coun-
tries, and we invite you to join them.
Paper and poster presentations cover a variety of topics:
Infectious Disease, Community Health, Spatial Statistics, Environ-
mental Health, New Technologies, Web-based GIS, Policy and Manage-
ment, and others.
In addition to paper presentations and plenaries, the IHGC offers
skills-building workshops on:
- Spatial Statistics for the Rest of Us: What to do When No Statisti-
cian is Around (led by Dr. Dick Hoskins, Head of the State of Wash-
ington DoH GIS program) -- 2 sessions
- Case studies, exercises and analyses using EpiMap2000/EpiInfo2000
(led by Dr. Andy Dean, head of the EpiMap & EpiInfo program at CDC,
and colleagues)
- Instruction modules for teaching spatial epidemiology on the WWW
(led by Dr. Geoff Jacquez, President of Biomedware, Inc., and col-
leagues)
- Effective use of GIS in Public Health Organizations (Bill Hoffman,
Epidemiologist, ESRI/Public Health Research Labs, and colleagues)
