Attendance Bursaries for Delegates from (Re)Emerging Countries
The British Computer Society Health Informatics Committee (HIC) invites
applications from colleagues in the (re)emerging nations who would like
to participate in the annual UK conference and exhibition Healthcare
Computing - HC98
This prestigious event will be held in Harrogate, Yorkshire, UK from
23-25th March 1998.
Over 1200 delegates from UK, Europe, USA and the East attend the event.
Over 3000 people attend the associated exhibition in 4 halls.
Bursaries are available to cover Event Registration, and travel (within
UK only), accommodation and subsistence for the duration of HC98.
Candidates are requested to submit a short resume (maximum 500 words)
of why they feel that they will benefit from attendance at HC98. The
application should include:
- current position and brief job description
- contact details : address, telephone, facsimile number and e-mail ad-
dress (if appropriate)
- reason for wishing to attend HC98
- how you would disseminate the information gained when you return home
All those awarded the bursaries will be required to submit a short pa-
per or poster on the state of health Informatics in their country and
the key issues to be addressed in national or local developments in-
their particular field. If suitable this will be included in volume 2
of the conference proceedings.
The proceedings at HC98 are in English with no translation facilities,
so the HIC feel that the candidates will typically be
- competent in both written and spoken English
- in a position to be able to contribute significantly to the
development of Health Informatics in their home country in any
clinical or health management discipline
- aged between 30 and 50, and in a key role in their organisation

Successful applicants will be notified by 15th February 1998
Please note:
1) Bursaries are not available to previous bursary holders
2) Successful candidates are responsible for finding funds to get
themselves to the UK and home again
3) The bursary does not cover the costs of bringing a partner
4) Priority will be given to candidates who have not previously at-
tended an HC Conference within the last 4 years
