The Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED), an interna-
tional non - governmental organisation, located in Geneva, Switzerland,
invites applications for the post of SENIOR RESEARCH OFFICER.
COHRED's fundamental objective is for all the people of each country to
achieve health and quality of life on the basis of equity and social
justice. To this end, COHRED assists countries in implementing the
Strategy of Essential National Health Research (ENHR), a unique mecha-
nism for organising and managing health research, which has evolved from
the initiatives of the Commission and Task Force on Health Research for
Development. COHRED works closely with countries, international research
programmes, United Nations agencies and other organisations.
The Senior Research Officer will assist the Co-ordinator in executing
COHRED's Plan of Work and will be responsible for analysing, synthesis-
ing and disseminating country experiences with specific implementation
aspects of the ENHR strategy.
The Senior Research Officer will have a degree in medicine and/or a doc-
torate in the social or biomedical sciences and extensive experience in
health research for development and research management. He/she will be
fluent in English, French or Spanish and will communicate easily in Eng-
lish. The position is offered from 1 February 1998, on a fixed term (re-
newable) contract of one (1) year within the United Nations Development
Program (UNDP). Qualified applicants are requested to send their resumee
